Description
Photographic artwork by Cindy Treger. Photographed near Lake Meade, East Berlin, PA. I planted two swamp milkweeds this past spring, and they have helped to attract more butterflies than I have ever seen. Also, as this photo shows, I now have Monarch caterpillars, which I have never seen before. In the past 20 years the Monarch, Danaus plexippus, population has decreased by 80 and 90%. If you love to photograph this lovely butterflies, and to help their population, I would suggest you find a spot to plant some butterfly weed. Remember that the plant must be three years old before it blooms, so ask about its age before purchasing. Who knows, you might get to witness them going through their chrysalis stage and emerge as an adult.
